Urge your members of Congress to support health equity legislation
In the United States, health disparities and inequities disproportionately affect racial and ethnic minority communities. Root causes of this inequity include racism and social determinants of health. To address these root causes and achieve health equity, it’s essential that action be taken on key issues such as social determinants of health, maternal mortality and police violence. APHA currently supports three bills address these issues: the Improving Social Determinants of Health Act, the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act and the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. Action on these bills is particularly important during the COVID-19 pandemic as minority communities bear a disproportionate burden of COVID-19 morbidity and mortality.
