Since its inception, over 5 million New Yorker’s have benefited from TAP. The program helps more than 302,000 students pay their tuition at a New York State college or university. In 2013-14, $936 million was awarded to New York State students.
Most (51%) TAP funds go to families earning less than $20,000 annually, with 72% having incomes of $40,000 or less.
Last year, the TAP award increased $165 to a maximum of $5,165. This is the first increase in more than a decade. By continuing to raise the levels of need-based grant aid, more students can benefit and TAP can continue to provide access for the state’s citizens and keep New York’s best students at home.
